Caribbean Beach Cabanas — Placencia, Belize

When I was younger and imagined living on the beach in the tropics, this is what I envisioned. Meet Luna Cabana at @caribbeanbeachcabanas in Placencia, Belize. ?? This boutique luxury property sits on the one the most beautiful stretches of beach along the peninsula (can’t wait to post the beach photo next!) It’s no wonder they are booked solid most of the time and have won several awards, including small hotel of the year for 2017 in Belize. I toured two additional cabanas in between guests checking out and each one has its own unique charms and personality, and our stay in Luna was perfect! It’s such an adorable property! One note, CBC is an adults only property so for those looking for a romantic getaway, but want to be in the heart of the village, it’s quite ideal.

Belize’s Placencia peninsula is home to some of the best beaches in Belize. Caribbean Beach Cabanas is located smack dab on the prettiest stretch of the peninsula, right on the edge of the village. You’ll want to leave the kids at home if you plan to stay here as Caribbean Beach Cabanas is an adults-only resort. Be sure to plan far in advance as the award-winning resort only has seven units and they are consistently booked out months in advance.

If you can’t get a reservation at Caribbean Beach Cabanas, owners Laura and Dave recently opened a new sister resort on Ambergris Caye, PUR Boutique Cabanas.

Central Hotel & Café—Copenhagen, Denmark

How about a hotel with only one room? If you are lucky enough to snag it, Central Hotel in Copenhagen is a sought-after spot, especially since it’s just around the corner from Værnesamsvej, one of the coolest streets in the city. Your stay includes breakfast at their downstairs café, and they can arrange special touches like a bottle of Champagne or chocolate upon check-in.

Riad Louaya —Marrakech, Morocco

Riad Louaya is a traditional Moroccan home in the heart of Marrakech’s medina. There are only five individual suites situated around the main courtyard area, each of which features different décor and furnishings. The tranquil patio with trees and a fountain offers plenty of seating and is perfect for relaxing with some Moroccan mint tea, while the rooftop deck offers nice late afternoon views as the sun sets. Breakfast is included in your stay, and the staff can arrange for traditional Moroccan cuisine for dinner with advance notice.

Gora Kadan — Hakone, Japan

Gora Kadan is located at the former summer home of the Imperial Family and is one of the most exclusive ryokans in Japan. It’s situated in the center of Hakone National Park and offers a remarkable blend of Japanese traditions with modern design touches. Choose from standard rooms or suites that feature different amenities like open-air baths, steam saunas or panoramic wooden baths.

Cayo Espanto — Belize

If staying on a private island is on your travel bucket list, consider Cayo Espanto in Belize. Located a short 7-minute boat ride from the popular tourist island of Ambergris Caye, Cayo Espanto’s resort features seven beach villas, including one overwater bungalow and two multi-story villas.

Five-star cuisine and drinks, with the exception of wine and Champagne, are included in the nightly rate. You’ll want for nothing as your dedicated staff handles everything from delivering morning coffee and fresh fruit to arranging tours and setting up a romantic dinner on the beach every night. For an even more exclusive experience, skip the boat ride over and book a flight on Astrum Helicopters, as Cayo Espanto has its own helicopter landing pad.

Tubo Tulum — Tulum, Mexico

Budget travelers will appreciate the adorable Tubo Tulum Hostel that offers eco-friendly accommodations in large concrete tubes. The tubes are situated around a tropical garden, and all guests have access to the large kitchen to cook their own meals. Tubes have electricity and an outlet, but bathroom facilities are shared.

PurePods — New Zealand

PurePods are individual units located throughout New Zealand’s countryside. The most remote ones are around a 2.5-hour drive from Christchurch, and each one is around half a mile from the car park. The walk is designed to acquaint you with the local environment and reinforce the privacy each PurePod offers. Choose your pod on what view suits you best — coastline, vineyards or mountains.

Free Spirit Spheres — Vancouver Island, Canada

Head to British Columbia for one of the world’s most unique hotels. Free Spirit Spheres are a far cry from your normal treehouse accommodations.
