Luxury Destinations on a Dime

Thanks to a slew of innovative travel companies, previously “exclusive” destinations are now within reach for those outside of the 1%. So pack your bags because these luxury vacations are calling your name. With these tips to affordable luxury, you’ll be lounging poolside in no time - without living off of only bread two months in advance.

Follow these simple rules to look and feel the part, without paying for it.

Dress to impress. Instead of splurging on a designer wardrobe, check out websites like Rent the Runway and Luxury Garage Sale to score high-end threads at a fraction of the cost.

Eat like a king. Know that you can't always count on happy hour specials in a vacation town geared towards the wealthy. Make a grocery and liquor store run on the way and plan on using your kitchen as much as possible. Enjoy some drinks on the patio before going out at night and use the money you save to splurge on a dinner at that farm-to-table restaurant everyone’s raving about.

Bring the posse. With a group of 5+, that beachfront home with a private pool is totally in the cards, whereas a couples weekender may result in something more like a garage apartment rental.

Where to go:

The Hamptons:
Round up your two favorite couples or 5 best friends to lounge by this gorgeous home five minutes from South Hampton. For just over $40 a head, you’ll enjoy 3 bedrooms, a giant pool & deck, and a chef’s kitchen that will inspire even the most novice chef to whip up something mouthwatering.

Drink of choice: Mojito. Muddle (yeah, you fancy) some lime juice and a teaspoon of sugar in the bottom of your glass, crush some fresh mint leaves on the sides of the glass, fill the glass ⅔ of the way with ice, pour over your favorite white rum, and top with fresh lime juice.

Aspen
Ski pros and professional snow bunnies alike will drool over a chance to vacation in Aspen. For $60 a head, take a double date vacation to this cozy mountain getaway. Enjoy a bubbling hot tub, two private decks, and an ideal walk-to-anything location at this prime condo.

Score some lift tickets for cheap on Groupon or LivingSocial, so you can sail down the mountain without worrying about your bank account.

Drink of choice: Red wine hot chocolate. This drink has taken the internet by storm for a reason. Heat ⅓ cup dark chocolate chips and a 1 1/2 cup of milk in a saucepan. Once that’s reached melty goodness, pour in a cup of your favorite pinot noir or cabernet sauvignon. The house will fill with a deliciously rich aroma and the drink will sure warm your body and heart from the inside out.

Napa Valley
Develop your palate in the world-famous Napa Valley. For just $25 a head, you and 5 friends can unwind at this adorable, updated 3-bedroom home. For such a low price you’ll enjoy spending time wandering the expansive vineyards and catching up over a game of giant chess in your private backyard oasis.

Drink of choice: Your favorite locally-grown wine.

Palm Springs
Spas, warm weather, and killer hiking opportunities make Palm Springs a favorite vacation spot. Lace up your shoes and hit the world-class hiking trails or take advantage of deals from Groupon and Seeqr and spend the afternoon at the Four Seasons Spa. That is, if you can tear yourself away from this insane Airbnb. A group of 8 can call this idyllic 5-bedroom home theirs for a measly $23 each.

Drink of choice: Mimosas. Champagne and OJ by the pool will cool you off. But make sure all pinkies are up and refills are met with a tasteful, “thank you, daaarling.”

Martha’s Vineyard
Despite its star-studded clientele, Martha’s Vineyard has stayed true to its laid-back beachy atmosphere. Food is a little pricey but when staying at this adorable home your sunsoaked group won't mind a chill night in. The beach is only a half mile walk away, or you can enjoy the decked-out picnic area, pool, and tennis courts. Although, at $25 a person, splurging on a fun night out may, very well, be in the cards.

Drink of choice: Sangria. Mix up this delicious recipe and refills will be a breeze. Bonus points if served out of a glass pitcher.
